This paper is a translation project report. Authorized by the Guangxi Arts Publishing House, our mission is to translate the fifth edition of Graphic Design School, a new textbook written by David Dabner, a graphic design expert, and his colleagues, into Chinese, with the purpose of publishing the Chinese version on this subject in China. This book was published and available in the market in 2014. The content has been constructed to mirror, in part, how the subject is taught in college in Britain and America. To translate and introduce it into China is of great significance and exerts active influences on China graphic design educationTwo main sections construct this textbook, principle and practice, eight chapters in total. The first section consists of four chapters, which deal with the basic of graphic design from Research and Concepts, Fundamental of Composition, Fundamentals of Typography, Fundamentals of Colour. Study on the primary theory will let readers become visually aware and able to articulate these design principles into future works. The late four chapters stress on practice. They make up the second section. In this section, feasible and detailed suggestion and instruction are provided to readers from the angles of Tools and Technologies, Print Production and Presentations, Web and Interactivity and Expert Paths and Collaborations. In the translation course, the author was mainly in charge of the translation of chapter 7, chapter 8 and proofread all other chapters which were translated by other group members. This report completely records the process that the author involved in this translation project, five parts in total. The first chapter is Introduction, which states the origin of translation project and analyzed its purpose. The second chapter simply introduces the text content first and then discusses the Text Stylistics of the source text from six aspects:text type, lexicon feature, text structure, language style, grammar, rhetoric characteristics. The third chapter, records the translation process. There are main four stages:planning, preparation, translation (comprehension and expression) and quality control. The fourth chapter presents related cases study and analysis. The fifth chapter concludes the experience accumulated from this translation task, and some related are proposed as well.
