Study On The Historical Plays Of Ming Loyalists

Ming loyalists (referring adherents who remain loyal to Ming Dynasty after it has been replaced by the Qing Dynasty) and their historical plays were of unique status and value in the drama history of ancient China. In this paper, energy is devoted to analyzing the life story of Ming loyalists and their creation of historical plays. The historical plays of Ming loyalists are fully considered as a whole with a view to exploring their literary value and then to carrying out an objective evaluation on their contributions to the drama history of ancient China.This paper is split into four chapters aside from introduction, conclusion and appendix. Specific as follows:Introduction summarizes the current situation of the study on the historical plays of Ming loyalists as well as expounds the research methods and significance of this paper.The first chapter focuses attention on the Ming loyalists and their historical plays. Anlyze the text forms of Ming loyaists’historical plays. Besides defining the core concepts of loyalists and historical play, this chapter gives a review of the life story of Ming loyalists and corresponding historical background with the purpose of figuring out the external factors from which the historical plays of Ming loyalists were derived.The second chapter gives an introduction to the name of the historical plays of Ming loyalists, analyzing the artistic characteristics of the historical plays. Based on sorting out the names of existing historical plays of Ming loyalists, a discussion is made according to their classification by two ways that are commonly used to process historical data, namely, memoir and spontaneous expression. By comparing the plots of these works with historical data and analyzing the their creation background, this chapter reveals the realistic and nihilistic trend of the narration on the historical plays of Ming loyalists as well as the stylistic and emotional difference arising from such trend.The third chapter pays attention to the psychology of the historical plays created by the Ming loyalists. Following the analysis on the emotional dimension of the historical plays of Ming loyalists in previous chapter, this chapter goes deep into the psychological activities of Ming loyalists in the special historical background and observes their historical plays from a stereoscopic perspective in combination with self-reference and virtual praise, which are the two practical functions of the drama creation of Ming loyalists.The fourth chapter lays stress on the cultural implications of the historical plays of Ming loyalists. Analyze the cultural connotations of the historical play created by Ming loyalists from the two prominent phenomena. This chapter sums up the aesthetic value of the historical plays in terms of artistic thoughts.Conclusion summarizes the major viewpoints of the whole text simply.Appendix gives an introduction to the life story of the Ming loyalists.
