" Painting is an activity to reflect the spirit and the psychology.Painting is a kind of exist as a physical entity. There is an exist of the painting objects that painting objects is relative to the existence of time and the space but also this existence assume the nothingness of existence. " Jean-Paul Sartre described in his book Being and Nothingness as the importantly existentialism figure.Giacometti’s lines and huge color of field by Rothko ’s work is the pure media and construction materials to show the exist and nothing in their artworks. They create a state of nothingness existence and the emptiness of the nature of existence. There is implicit nothingness in the visual focus of the pictures. The nothingness is secreted into a more far-reaching space where is created by the artist. In fact, the existence is constructed through the conscious nothingness. But the exist is only the existence habitats for the audience eyes. This dissertation mainly researched in Europe after World War II about existentialist sculptor and the painter Alberto Giacometti and contemporaneous color field paintings of the American abstract expressionistically painter Mark Rothko for inspiration, and then conbined with existentialist philosophy by Martin Heidegger and Jean-Paul Sartre as the importantly figures during the 1940 s and 1950 s to analyze absolute painting objects andthe process of observations and perception and expression of its existence space by the two artists. And they explore the performance tension through the lines and blocks of color in the picture space.First of all, this dissertation emphasises the Giacometti’s unique way of viewing and shows the experiments and explorations about the existence of space. He perceives space beings and reflect on the artworks to form a Giacometti style aesthetic language of painting. On the other hand, the American artist Mark Rothko reform the form of painting in a whole new way.He seeks a pure emotional expression through a two-dimensional large-Color Field. He displays the visual tension in his pictures as he pays more attention to the psychological spirit interpretation and expression levels. His works reflect the dependence relationship between the existence of the objects and the existence of space and paints an objective and subjective state space. He reflects his own way of viewing objects and his understanding in the creative process. He extracts the pure painting language independently and minimalist art forms to explore and construct the being and nothingness of space in the pictures. This dissertation was mainly used with the literature research, comparative analysis and summarization to explore this topic. Through researching the paintings language of Giacometti’s and Rothko’s artworks there was presented a new watch perspectives for us while they e xplored the space of the paintings. And it was enlightened for us about the painting way creatively and unique perception in the oil painting. How achieved the self-aware way of viewing from the existences and reflected in the works and took the unique form of art to explore and create a pictorial space is the significance of this dissertation.
