The Impact Of Within-domain Cue And Cross-domain Cue On False Memories

False memories are widespread in the people’s life. Veridical memory is helpful to improve the efficiency of our work and study, false memories can lead to our cognition to the event an error, and a negative impact on our lives. In order to avoid the negative impact brought about false memories, psychologists have tried to eliminate false memories in the laboratory by manipulating variables.Studies have found that it is difficult to eliminate false memory, but through other ways can to a certain extent, reduce the incidence of false memories. There are many factors that can affect false memories.among of them, the clues play a very important role in memory retrieval clues.Information stored in a person’s brain is far greater than we could recall at a particular point in time.Is there enough clues and the effectiveness of the clues, can directly affects the success of the extraction of memory or lead to the occurrence of false memories.In the theory of forgotten.Clues extraction failed hypothesis also illustrate the importance of the effectiveness of the cue for the memory retrieval.In Loftus’(1975) Misleading information,individuals suggested by misleading information, to produce the false memories.Thus.we can suggest that the leading of clues may improve the individual’s true memories, but also may induce more false memories.However, Part-list cuing effect has been found in the study of Veridical memory.that part-list cuing has an inhibitory effect on the extraction of real memory.So,whether the part-list cuing effect exists in the false memory, that part-list cuing reduces the occurring of false memories.But analyzing the effect of part-list cuing on false memory from the part of the false memory theory and Part-list cuing effect,the result is the opposite. According to the false memory theory, the appearing of part-list should be increased to induce false memories.But according to part of Part-list cuing effect,the appearing of part-list will reduce the occurrence of false memories.Tips of part-list cuing will reduce the occurrence of false memories or increase false memories,the further research is needed. According to the Dual process,Recognition memory contains two essential and independent component:the recollection and the familiarity.For now,the effect of part-list cuing on the recollection and the familiarity of false memory is still not clear,it needs further discussion. In order to solve two issues raised above:whether there is part-list cuing effect in the false memories, part-list cue how to the affects the familiarity and recollection of false memories, this study attempts to manipulate the consistency of cue to explore the effect of part-list cue on false memories.In this study, we would design a preliminary experiment which evaluates the experimental material to induce false memories and two formal experiments to explore the effects of within-domain and cross-domain on false recognition.First of all, the preliminary experiment to evaluate the material that Experiments 1 and Experiments 2 will be used, the Sample Table word’s differences between familiarity, typical and strokes are not significant. From three aspects as possible to ensure that the levels of induced false memories in this two groups vocabularies are not different.Second,in experiment 1, a self-invented Category of conjunctions as experimental material, and use DRM paradigm base on clue-free group to investigate the impact of within-domain on false memories of "new/old" judgment. After being tested to make "old word" judgment, the introduction of " know/remember " judgment, which will be separated from the familiarity and recollection of false memories,in order to explore the impact of within-domain on the familiarity and recollection of false memories. The results show that, compared with the clue-free group, the impacts of the within-domain on false memories of "new/old" judgment are not significant, also the within-domain will reduce the false recognition and increase the familiarity.Finally, let the Experiment 2 examine the effect on familiarity and recollection of cross-domain on the basis of Experiment 1,the results show that, compared with the clue-free group,the impacts of the cross-domain on false memories of "new/old" judgment are not significant,and the effects of cross-domain on recollection of false memory are not significant,so as to the familiarity.According to the results of experiment 1 and experiment 2, we can infer Part-list cuing effect don’t exist in false memory. Within-domain leads the separation of familiarity and recollection of false memory realized. Within-domain in false memory shows promoting trend, destroy the recollection and enhance familiarity of false recognition,Impacts of cross-domain on recollection and familiarity of false recognition are not significant.
