Academic procrastination refers to the behavior which leads to adverse consequences because of unnecessary delay. Academic procrastination is widely distributed in today’s college students. Academic procrastination may lead to many negative consequences like lower grades, unhealthy diet and sleep, and low mental health level. Therefore, it appears very important and urgent to study the cause and internal psychological mechanism of academic procrastination and find a scientific method to it as soon as possible.Currently there are few studies about the internal psychological mechanism between self-efficacy and academic procrastination, in order to solve this problem,856 college students from Hubei, Henan, Beijing and other places were invested using questionnaire method. First, we explores general features of college students’academic procrastination, then we revises the Chinese vision of academic self-determined motivation scale for college students into a simpler vision, third, we explores the relationship between self-efficacy, self-determined motivation and academic procrastination.The main conclusions of this research are as follows:(1) Academic procrastination is widely distributed in China’s college students, the detection rate is as high as 78.2%, but most students’ procrastination is in the medium level.(2) In geneal, there’s no significant gender difference in Chinese college students’ academic procrastination, but females’ procrastination is significantly higher than males’ when it comes to the "procrastination degree"demension of academic procrastination "paper task" and "daily behavior".(3) There’s significant grade difference in academic procrastination and each demenion of it. Using the methd of post hoc, we find that the general grade difference in academic procrastination is mainly resulted from the significant difference between freshman and the other grades.(4) There’s significant major difference in academic procrastination and its dimensions. Liberal arts students scores significantly lower than Science & engineering students in academic procrastination and its dimensions.(5) The simpler vision of academic self-determined motivation scale for college students contains five dimensions and 19 questions in total. Both of the scale’s reliability and validity are conform to the standards of psychometrics, so the scale is a reliable measurement tool to assess college students’self-determined motivation.(6) Through methods of structural equation modeling(SEM), we find that self-efficacy has a a direct negative function on academic procrastination degree and academic procrastination problems; Self-efficacy can indirectly reduce academic procrastination problems through amotivation as well as reduce academic procrastination degree through intrinsic motivation; Extrinsic motivation isn’t mediator in the relationship between self-efficacy and procrastination.(7) Through methods of structural equation modeling(SEM), we find that the value of the mediating effects of intrinsic motivation between self-efficacy and academic procrastination degree is -0.085, the mediation effect is 27.8%, and the value of the mediating effects of amotivation between self-efficacy and academic procrastination problems is -0.018, the mediation effect is 11.4%;...
