Take a sweeping view through China and foreign countries, the creation of literary works featuring animal images or animals as the subject of narration can be traced back a long time ago, which has taken a quite important role in each phase of the development in the history of literature at home and abroad. A worldwide rush of animal narration has been formed in 20 th century and attracted a huge amount of readers and fans. However, for a long period of time, animal image and its narration being an important component in China’s new period literature, has never gained the attention it should have by critics.Taking the animal image and its narration in China’s new period literature as the subject and on the basis of drawing from the findings in the past, I gave a redefinition of the important concept as animal narration and make it clear the connotation and extension. Then I stated in brief the happening and development process of the history of the animal image and animal narration depicted in novels at home and abroad with summarizing its characteristics in the end. What’s more, I had made a tentative effort to launch a survey on the animal image and its narration from a historic and full perspective and tried to run through its important parts and grasp its characteristicsThe “animal literature” in the development of the history in China’s literature has a long history. Through the drive of external force and rhythm of internal representation as well as on the basis of accepting tradition and absorbing outer forces, novels featuring animal narration in new period have been taking constant changes on the thoughts and contents as well as the literary forms. The purpose of this essay is to make a observation of the embracement and new changes of the phenomenon of “animal image and its narration” in new period novels from the perspectives of the theme and strategies of narration. The ideas of this essay is to make an observation of the animal images involved in this type of literary works from the angle of the presented subjects, categorizes them into the type or the gender of animal image. Then from the angle of the contents presented, I had observed various animal themes involved, which are aesthetic, ecology and fables. In addition, I have observed the writing strategies of “animal narration” from an angel of the features of artistic presentation, which involves narration angle and the conversion of reality, presentation of the prototype and the new type, the pursuit of the expression of poetry and symbols. In the end, on the basis of taking a view of the general, I explained the features and characteristics of the animal image and its narration in new period novels and brought to light the meaning, restriction and relevant enlightenment.
