A Practice Report On Chinese-english Translation Of Complex Sentenses In Chorogaphic Text

With the significant improvement of Chinese political and economic levels recently, the diplomatic culture, tourism culture and traditional national’s characteristics attract much more attentions. Meanwhile, economic globalization acts a great driver of the flourishing translation industry. Chorography, as a kind of local comprehensive information book, records circumstance or matters in policy, economy, culture, etc of a region during a certain period. It reflects local physical geography, humanistic life, political system, financial circumstance, social conditions and so forth truthfully, clearly and objectively. It is necessary for translators to practice and conclude such kind of text regularly and particularly in order to promote the spread and communication of local traditional culture and national customs.This paper selects the book The History and Culture of Chaoyang as a translation practice. This book introduces geographical situations, historical route, fossil culture, Hongshan culture, Buddhist culture, the culture of Three Yan dynasties, tourist attractions and so on. Its language characteristic is lucidity and simple style of writing as chorographic text, which is easy for readers to understand and comprehend. However, technical terms and complex sentences that professional, succinct and coherent are appeared in large numbers in the descriptions of fossils and history; and there also has some classical Chinese, which are the major difficulties in this process of translation. The author focuses on analyzing and solving these difficulties in case analysis of this paper.The author wishes to increase the translation experience of chorographic texts and improve translation capability of various materials by specific translation practice, problem analysis and experience summary. And she also wishes that this practical report could provide some reference to translators engaged in relevant field.
