A Report On The C-E Translation Of The Website Of College Of Technology And Engineering, Lanzhou University Of Technology

As important communication medium, English website of university plays a significant role in the publicity and image promotion. It is favored by university due to its diverse forms of exhibition, such as texts, pictures, audio and video clips, provide visitors with easy but all-round display platforms.This report is based on the English website translation project of the College of Technology and Engineering, Lanzhou University of Technology. It mainly introduces the translation process and analyzes the translation strategies and methods suitable for the project.This report is composed of five parts. The first part is an introduction to the background and main contents of the report. The second part is the task description, in which the background, significance, main contents of the project and the requirements of the entrusting party are introduced. The third part gives an overall introduction to the translation process of before-translation, while-translation and after-translation. Before-translation preparations include translation planning, text analysis, the choice of translation theory, strategies and a contingency plan in case of an emergency during the project. During while-translation, the report mainly discusses the formulation of the glossary, the implementation of the translation and the quality control system. After-translation part presents the evaluation and feedback from three parts, the entrusting party, the peer translator and the author herself. In the fourth part, the author uses typical cases to discuss the application of translation strategies, such as deletion and simplification, sentence restructuring, rewriting, adaptation and explanation. The last part draws a conclusion to the translation project thoroughly.The translation project provides the author a great chance to practice. Through the practice and experience, the author concludes several translating strategies and skills suitable for the web translation. It is hoped that they can supply references for the similar translation project.
