Vladimir Nabokov, a Russian-born American, is one of the most well-known contemporary American novelists as well as a stylist, critic, essayist, poet, professor and Lepidopterist. As Nabokov’s masterpiece, Lolita, is a fiction which arouses great controversies among the literary circle.This thesis aims at probing into the text under the theory of metafiction, revealing how the writer deals with the relationships between fact and fiction, between writer and reader, and the characteristics of parody. It analyses the basic elements of the novel including fictional reality and characters description, and reveals how the writer employs his literary view and literary skills into his novel.The paper will be divided into seven parts. Part one tries to introduce Nabokov and his Lolita. Part two introduces the literary review. Part three summarizes theoretical framework. Part four analyses how the writer employs his literary view into his novel. Part five aims at examining the nature of fiction, the tension of details and the characters in the novel. The sixth part tries to find out the skills or the tendency applied in the metafictional novel and the meanings in the novel. The last part is the conclusion.
