As an important tool in teaching, textbook is a major factor in affecting the quality of the teaching. Due to the current academic has not reach a consensus on how to control the difficulty of corpus, the definition of the intermediate is still a matter of opinion. Thus, there are still lots of problems open to question in the course of compiling and using the intermediate intensive reading text. As long-term use textbooks of the intermediate level students in School of Chinese as a Second Language of Sun Yat-sen University, "Intermediate Chinese Intensive Course Ⅰ " and "Developing Chinese Intermediate comprehensive Course Ⅰ” each has its own unique, while in the course are also some shortcomings.In this paper, the main texts of these two textbooks were studied by literature research, comparative analysis, questionnaires, interviews and sample surveys and other methods. Ten texts chosen by systematic sampling are quantified by a readability formula constitute by four variables, including the total number of words, simple word count, number of function words and the number of sentences, to serve as an evidence of the readability of the two textbooks. The topic, genre, length and style of the two textbooks were comparative analyzed. Through the analysis, we attempt to summarize the advantages and disadvantages of the two textbooks and to provide some advice and reference materials for the selection of intermediate intensive texts.
