This report is built on the interpreting of car reviews in automobile testing videos. The source of the material is Autoguide.com, which is an encyclopedia website of automobiles. It covers massive information regarding all kinds of cars, with brand names ranging from Mercedes-Benz, Cadillac to Lexus, Audi, Nissan and so forth. The general information in these videos comprises car models, components, designs, built-in systems, testing performance, dynamic dimension etc, each of which all constitutes a part of these videos. Three videos are assigned to the author, including, Car Review of Lexus AY 350 F-Sport 2014, Evo Track Battle of Mercedes SLS AMG Black and Porsche 997 GT2 RS and Car Buyer Review of MG3 Hatchback 2013.The purpose of this report is to formulate a method to solve the problems the author encountered during the interpreting process in scientific ways, so as to improve her personal interpreting capabilities and techniques. In the meantime, it aims to draw the colleagues’ attentions to common obstacles on similar occasions and to the corresponding coping tactics, so that practical methods can be put in place for their future interpreting activities of this kind. More than that, this report also purports to shed a light on EST interpreting, which is still a weak link in the present interpreting field, in the hope that it may help people have a better understanding of such interpreting task. This report is carried out based on methodic analysis, elaborating upon the most difficult issues in the simplest and clearest way. It is developed around the interpreting of car reviews in automobile testing videos from the perspective of listening barriers. The content consists of task description, process description, interpreting process, after-interpreting management, case study and conclusion. The requirements of the client and the nature of the interpreting will be introduced in the task description; pre-interpreting preparation, interpreting schedule and emergency plan will be elaborated on in the process description; glossary preparation and the performance of the interpreting will be discussed in the interpreting process; quality control and the evaluation of the client are the main areas that the author will be discussing in the after-interpreting management which serves as the revision process of this interpreting; case study will be carried out around the main obstacles and corresponding coping tactics with specific examples listed out for further elaboration; conclusion will be the part where the author looks back to this interpreting practice, summarizes the main obstacles and effective coping tactics and puts forward some available strategies that might be helpful for interpreters who will conduct such interpreting practice in their future lives. After the interpreting practice, such findings are discovered that pre-interpreting preparation plays a very important role in this type of interpreting. As for coping tactics for the on-going interpreting, short-term memory comes before note-taking, Herbert note-taking method and visualization are highly efficient in this part. Unit conversion is the trickiest part, which requires certain mathematical skills. Auxiliary tools, if available, are also of use. Anticipation of contents may give interpreters a headstart in such interpreting. Amplification, omission and generalization are well-suited for dealing with missing or confusing information. Adapation enables interpreters to use interpreting strategies flexibly in this type of interpreting, to add or correct missing or wrong interpreting later on, as well as adjust interpreting strategies anytime. Literal interpreting is recommended as a coping method for unfamiliar or abstract meaning. These findings, though small and perhaps somehow subjective, may turn out to be useful for interpreters who will engage in this type of interpreting in the future.
