| Report on the Work of the Government (RWG) has always been an important event during the NPC and CPPCC sessions. With the fast growing of the economy and the deepening of China’s reform and opening-up, RWG has become a crucial channel for the westerners to understand contemporary China. The interpretation and translation of the government’s report thus becomes increasingly important and require higher standards.This report selected the first 60 minutes of 2014 Premier Li Keqiang’s RWG as material and did mimic simultaneous interpreting. Focusing on specific problems and difficulties in interpreting practice, this report concludes three major interpreting difficulties:(1) Chinese four-character phrases; (2) metaphors; (3) literal translation of nouns and jargons with Chinese characteristics, resulting communication failure.Focusing on the above mentioned difficulties, this report concludes three methods: (1)two-word equivalence for Chinese four-character phrases; (2) interpreting Chinese metaphors while maintaining their features; (3) using authoritative translation and implication explanation.This report provides ideas and methods in dealing with author’s problems in C-E consecutive interpreting. It has deepened the author’s understanding of such problems. The experience and suggestions will be useful in future interpretation. |
