Catchwords is the popular words in one phase, and it is also the part that with most variability and timeliness in language. There are two reasons that lead to these changes, internal language and the social reason in external language(Ma Yuhong,2013). The catchwords not only reflect the changes in the society, but also help us build the ideal society(Cornwall, 2010). Analyzing the language internal mechanism and the meanings of the catchwords will be beneficial for us to understand the relationships between language and society as well as the track of language changes(Wu Bingxin, 2015).This study chose Annual Ten Hottest Lines on China’s Web(HLCW) from 2006 to 2015(Ten years) as the main research object from the YAO WEN JIAO ZI Magazine and Sina.com and did profound research on them. I analyze the meaning, the form and the formation origin along with the cognitive sociolinguistics theories frame. I analyze three problems mainly.(1) What is the semantic meaning and the social value of these hottest lines?(2) What are the linguistics characteristics of these hottest lines?(3) What is the formation origin of these hottest lines?Through the research, there are three kinds of basic types, namely, words, phrases and sentences in the annual catchwords from 2006 to 2015. There are also seven forms in constituting the annual catchwords, including single noun, single verb, single adjective and verb or adjective plus noun form. In the aspect of original fields, network lines and news and events are the main parts in forming the annual catchwords. At the same time, the thesis combine with three kinds of basic sociosemantics models raised by Geeraerts(2006), namely, the semantics of Cooperation, the semantics of authority and the semantics of conflict and competition(Zhang hui, Zhou Hongying, 2010) to analyze their influence towards the forming ofthe catchwords. I hope that I reveal the formation rules and the generating reason through the analysis of the annual catchwords in the ten years. I hope my research will give full play to the important role of the annual catchwords in people’s daily communication.
