The reduplicated form of adverbs in modern Chinese has been attracted recognition and attention by the academic circles since 1980 s, but the argument on this phenomenon didn’t stop until now. Mainly because that adverb is a half open semi-enclosed class, we can’t accurately count its members; Another reason is that academic circles can’t definite the reduplicated form of adverbs with agreement. The reduplicated form of adverbs have similarities and differences with other reduplicated forms. Study on this phenomenon can complement the whole reduplicated system.Current academic circles has researched this phenomenon from different angles, some of them stand on a macro perspective, overall grasp the characteristics of this phenomenon; some of them base on a single adverb; and some base on the small class. Different angles on research is conductive to a comprehensive understanding this grammatical phenomenon, but it is hard to do clear thread. So this paper intends to start from the simplest classification, mainly use the number of syllables as the basis, on the basis of a large number of corpus analysis, respectively from the definition of the reduplicated form of adverbs, the classification of the single and double syllable adverbs of the reduplicated form and the differences; the similarities and differences between single and double syllable reduplicated form of adverbs; and also research the source of this phenomenon and motivation. We hope we can base on the departed research know more about this important grammar phenomenon.This paper is divided into eight parts altogether:(1) Introduction. State the subject value, research ideas and research methods briefly.(2) The relevant literature review. This paper bases on making up for the achievements of carding and evaluation.(3) Definite the reduplicated form of adverbs. Clarify the meaning of the reduplicated form of adverbs, according to the syllable divide the adverbs into two categories, namely the monosyllabic adverbs and double syllable adverbs of the reduplicated form.(4) The classification of monosyllabic adverbs overlap and difference. According to the freedom of basic type and superimposed classify the adverbs, before and after overlap the differences mainly from two aspects of syntactic, semantic expression.(5) The classification of the double syllable adverb overlap and difference. According to the classification in the form of adverb overlap, We mainly discuss the before and after overlapping differences from the syntactic expression, syntactic function and semantic expression three aspects.(6) The similarities and differences between single and double syllable adverbs overlap. Compare the similarities and differences between single and double syllable adverbs overlap from four grammar plane to talk about, namely grammar plane, semantic and pragmatic plane, rhythm.(7) The source of the adverbs overlap and motivation. We mainly study from the emergence and development of the adverb overlap phenomenon as well as the motivation.(8) Summarization. Summarize this paper’s viewpoint.
