Mifu is a well known calligrapher,painter and painting theorist of Northern Song Dynasty. He was born in Shanxi, and moved to Xiangyang Hubei later, finally settled in Runzhou. He and Dongpo Su, Tingjian Hwang, Xiang Cai has been called “the four great calligraphers” in Northern Song Dynasty. His work has critical historical status and influence in the History of Chinese Calligraphy and it’s characterized by its distinctive style as well as the singular calligraphy aesthetics that advocates for innocent and ordinary.This essay discusses the concept of “True Interest” through its formation,embodiment and influence, to analyze the calligraphy theory of Mifu.In order to comprehensively from various fields for example analysis of MiFu’s “True Interest” aesthetic theory.In the first place, the essay talks about the emergence of“True Interest”. And what’s the influence on him caused by the family background he was from and the social class he was belonging to. In addition, as being described as a “madman”, what’s fun could happen to him?Secondly, in calligraphy circle Mifu has a venomous tongue about other calligraphers. And his speeches were included in “The sayings of Haiyue ”, “Calligraphy’s History”. What is the expression of its "true interest" concept of the book. It discusses how the concept of “True Interest” been presented in Mifu’s work. In this part, many his classic pieces, such as “Shu Su Notes”,“Tiao Xi Poetry Anthology”, “Hong county Poetry Anthology”etc. are enumerated. In addition, it expounds the impacts of “True Interest” for the future, and also how the later calligraphers appraise him.In the last part, it comments on how the “True Interest” could inspire the development of the calligraphy today.Mifu was recognized as an genius for his achievement on calligraphy, his work has profound influence in the history. The In-depth study towards the aesthetics and work of Mifu has essential meaning relevantly and theoretically for summarizing the discipline of calligraphy and urging the continually development of calligraphy.
