What is luxury? Luxury has noun constantly appeared in our life and have us get used to it. But it is not have appeared since ancient times. Physical similar items in different historical periods have different character and connotation. This article is trying to prove with historical materials that luxury goods have come into being in the south of the Yangtze river in the late Ming dynasty where many new economic factors have been seen and a consumer society has formed, so it is a kind of nonessentials property which is different from previous. During late Ming period, with the prosperity of commodity economy and the arrival of Uncharted Waters, Chinese society especially the south region of the Yangtze river, towns rose and commodities moved free, then wealth boomed on here. As the result, traditional social hierarchy and ideas got huge impact while society was happening with a big change. A combination of luxury and arrogation climate surged in civil. Even established a set of strict control system of the Ming dynasty government also felt helpless about this situation and can only choose to turned a blind eye.The south region of the Yangtze river is the economic center of China as well as the fashion center. Ming style furniture was appeared in late Ming dynasty and its origin place is Suzhou. It is a peak in the history of Chinese furniture. It both have art and commercial nature, so it is one of the first luxury goods in the history of China. And people in late Ming dynasty had abundant economic strength. So with the accumulation of wealth, people were forming a value that is request discarding coarse and chasing fine life. Then under the guidance of the literati elite, this tendency eventually leaded to art. The Chinese have thousands years culture and this is a spontaneous choice by nationality. This is a problem which we need to pay attention. Such life manner is also determines the external form and connotation of the earliest Chinese top luxury and Ming style furniture is the most typical Chinese luxury goods.
