The Research Of Science And Technology Journals In Beijing And Shanghai Area During The May Fourth Period(1915-1925)

The journals of Science and technology are namely to promote science and technology by journals. Currently, scholars on the definition of "science" and "technology" concept have different opinions, this paper called "science" is "the study of natural phenomena and laws of natural science", and “technology” is “in accordance with the principles of natural science production experience, scholars make up a variety of systems for a practical purpose, for example tools, equipments, technical and technological systems. But it does not include social science."In the May Fourth period, science and democracy become the two major themes. Chinese people esteem for science and technology to an unprecedented extent. A large number of scientific journals were founded. The science and technology journals founded by natural scientists are more accurate and appropriate for the interpretation and dissemination of science. They hold the scientific spirit of seeking truth and being practical. They popularize scientific knowledge to the public in a popular language, and spread the basic theories and the latest research achievements in the fields of mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, medicine, electromagnetism and so on. They also unite a group of scientific talents through that provide a platform and opportunity for them to publish scientific ideas, scientific research results. It pushed the development of Science in China at that time.This paper takes the science and technology journals of May Fourth period in Beijing and Shanghai as the breakthrough point. Under the premise of making full use of historical materials, I analyze the background, status, contents, characteristics and influence of Beijing and Shanghai science and technology journals in May Fourth period. What’s more, the generality and individuality of science and technology periodicals in Beijing and Shanghai area during the May Fourth period are summarized, in order to enrich the intermediate research of science and technology periodicals in the May Fourth Period.
