Thomas Hardy is an excellent realism novelist and a serious moralist. His novels not only reveal the real social reality of British countryside in the 19 th century,but also refer to the ethical issues which was common concern in the Victorian era. We can start systematically analyzing Hardy’s clothing moralizing narrative from both the ethical and cultural costumes.Hardy novels moralizing narrative apparel mainly in individual moral admonition, reprimand marriage and family morality, and ethics reprimand. Fiction determines whether they meet the social moral standards by different characters costumes or not, highlighting the outstanding example of the power from the comparison, shaping the characters conform to capitalist morality standard, and guiding people to foster a correct clothing morality, so that ultimately achieving the purpose of moral admonition.Hardy novel costumes performance moralizing narrative mode can be divided into three types: firstly, presenting beauty and highlighting morality by clothing narrative, secondly, exposing the ugly and maintaining the morality by clothing narrative; thirdly, starting direct moral judgments to character C lothing, maintaining specific ethical standards by t artistic form, such as ethics morality, clothing morality, etc.Hardy’s novels clothing moralizing narrative is worthy of our reflection, it will not only further enhance the artistic value and social value of the Hardy novel, but also expanding artistic expression of the fiction to some extent. At the same time, the novel’s clothing narrative has rich detail, so that readers can understand the moral thought and Code of Conduct which was advocated in the Victorian era by Hardy’s novel, and better realizing the High degree of integration of state ideological and artistic of Hardy’s novel. However, Hardy’s novel also has its lim itations owing to the impact of the living environment, not consciously safeguard the capitalist ideology. Whether the characters clothing was praised or criticized in the novel, after all are judged by moral standards of capitalism, aiming at that capitalist society promoting toward a more ideal direction, thus weakening the criticalness of Hardy’s novels.
