Construction Of Interpersonal Meaning In Chinese-English Consecutive Interpretation

Following Halliday’s systemic functional linguistics, we review the definition of translation and analyze the interpersonal metafunction in detail in order to discuss the construction of interpersonal meaning in translation.This thesis follows the principle of emphasizing both theories and practice and takes the transcript of Premier Li Keqiang’s press conference as examples. Based on the systemic functional linguistics(SFL), this thesis focuses on the construction of mood system and modality system among the speaker, the interpreter and the listener in translation. From the perspective of mood system, it discusses the interpersonal meaning implied by mood system, take the transcript of Premier Li Keqiang’s press conference as examples to illustrate the construction in the process of interpersonal meaning between the speaker and the interpreter, and between the interpreter and the listener in terms of mood system. From the aspects of modality system, this thesis analyzes the interpersonal meaning implied modality system. Through the perspective of using the frequency of each type and value of the modality system, it discusses the construction in the process of interpersonal meaning between the speaker and the interpreter, and between the interpreter and the listener in terms of modality system.Due to omissions of interpersonal meaning in translation, this thesis attempts to fill the gap through theories and practice.
