A Report On The Simulation Of The E-C SI Of The Documentary On The Birth Of British Music

Taking interpreting material from the BBC documentary The Birth of British Music, the author has simulated a simultaneous interpreting practice. Combining with the video of the simultaneous interpreting practice, she analyzes problems and concludes strategies. The practice has shown that information loss and erroneous information sometimes occur in the simultaneous interpretation. But the interpreter can take some strategies thus guaranteeing the quality of interpreting text.The report has four parts: the first part briefs the interpretation program and is clear about the aim of this task; The second part is pre-preparation including background, words and parallel texts; The third part analyzes the problems in the interpreting text; The fourth part provides strategies to solve the problems of information loss and erroneous information, including reformulation, generalization and other interpreting skills. Reviewing the process of practice, the author concludes the problems, and makes suggestions for pre-preparation, simultaneous interpreting skills, mental quality and knowledge accumulation. From this practice, the author has a good command of simultaneous interpretation’s process and enriches the knowledge and words of music. She also has a deep understanding of the problems in the field, learns the strategies and hopes to contribute to simultaneous interpretation studies.
