The Tragic Factors Of Rachmaninov’s "the Piano Concerto No.2"

Rachmaninov (Sergei Vassilievitch Rachmaninov,1873-1943), a gorgeous composer, pianist and conductor from Russia. He created many music works in his entire life, piano works is the main part of his works, and piano concerto is the primary musical form he created. In 1901, the creation of Rachmaninov Piano Concerto No.2 in c minor, Op.18 was meaningful to him. it led piano concerto to a new level. In this thesis, it will research the major characteristic and artistic presentation technique of Rachmaninov Piano Concerto No.2 in c minor, Op.18 deeply.It analyzes the tragic factors in Rachmaninov Piano Concerto No.2 in c minor, Op.18 by discussing the factors showed in the piano concerto through the methods of researching documents.. analyzing music scores, summarizing and concluding, etc. In this thesis, it also analyzes the reasons of these tragic factors specifically, and how the tragic express in melody、tune、harmony and dynamic. Meanwhile. it summarizes the explanations of the tragic style showed in piano touching and pedal which is based on theoretical researching and performing practicing.The personal qualities of Rachmaninov’s music are graceful melody、epic momentum and exquisite emotions, besides, a distinguished feature of his creations is tragic element. You could not explain it well without considering the tragic factors of his magnum opus——Rachmaninov Piano Concerto No.2 in c minor, Op.18. In conclusion, thanks to the previous studies, it researches the important quality of the piano concerto which mainly focus on tragic factor. The author hopes it could offer some useful experiences for the people who will study the piano concerto, help them to combine the theory and performing practicing, and also make them enjoying and playing it better.
