| With the constant development of the researches on translation theory, there are more comprehensive, accurate and objective factors influencing the process of translation found and verified. In the translation, the translators not only can dominate the translation, but also are enslaved to various factors, such as the original text, the translators themselves, ideology, poetic, patron and TL readers etc. And as the readers are the receivers of translation which is a kind of culture transmission, their demand is one of the important factors that the translators can not ignore in translating, otherwise, the translation without any readers would be meaningless. In order to make the translation received well by TL readers, the translators would take TL readers into consideration intentionally or unintentionally so that they would be led and limited by the TL readers. When the words or content in the original context can not be understood or received by TL readers, the translators would take some measures, such as rewriting or adapting properly to make the translation received by TL readers better. The more special the TL readers are, the more obviously the text would be rewritten. In the new period, as the children are paid more and more attention to, there are more and more works produced for children, even including those originated from rewriting foreign works for adults. The children readers, as a special group who has special psychological, physical and social characteristics, have an important influence on the rewriting of texts. The child-edition Gulliver’s Travel is the text produced by considering the demand of the children readers.Gulliver’s Travel is a classical sarcastic novel by Irish writer Jonathan Swift. However, after it was introduced into China, as the SL and TL readers have different ideology, culture background and space-time, the TL readers didn’t pay much attention to the sarcasm in the original text but the exaggerate expression and amazing imagination, which made Gulliver’s Travel rewritten into typical reading material for children. Before translating Gulliver s Travel for children, the translator should make a research on the children’s cognition, aesthetics and attention to know their demand so that the translation would be popular with children. After comparing the lexical, syntactical and textual characteristics of the original version with those of the version for children, and combining with the analysis of children’s features under the guidance of the translation theory--the reception aesthetics and "the implied readers", there is a conclusion that when translating for children, the translator should take the translation into consideration from linguistic and cultural levels. In linguistic level, several translation strategies should be taken, such as adding onomatopoeia, reduplicating words, direct speech, simplifying the sentences and brief translation etc. under the influence of children’s psychological, physical and aesthetic features. In cultural level, the strategies such as taking the domestication as primary strategy, replacing the original meaning and reduction should be taken to rewrite the original text for children according to children’s social features. The aim of exploring the strategies of rewriting the text Gulliver’s Travel based on the demand of children readers is to promote the development of practical translation on children literature and illustrate the important state of readers in rewriting. |
