Preliminary Study On The Formation Of Imagery When Appreciating Chinese Poetry

The Chinese poetry has showed great creativity in language, whine is concise and informative. Some scholars have put forward the process of poetry appreciation, that is objects imagery_imagery_artistic conception. However thses were just theoretical inference, without empirical study. Imagery is the core process of poetry appreciation. Now we would study the process of imagery and the influence factors.Experiment 1 investigated the influences of different clues in ancient poetry appreciation.. The results showed that:the scores of imagery and artistic conception in emotional clues group were significantly higher than the scores in keyword clues group and the control group; the scores of imagery and artistic conception in keyword clues group and the control group made no difference; for the three different clues group, scores of imagery and artistic conception were highly significantly positively related.Experiment 2 investigated the influences of different clues on the the formation of imagery, the results showed that:the accuracy of imagery was significantly higher when the emotional clues was valid; the accuracies were not different between valid keyword clues and invalid keyword clues; when the emotional clues was valid, the accuracy was significantly higher when the keywords clues was valid. Comparing the accuracy of the control group with the four clues group, the results showed that:the accurcy of control group was significantly lower than the valid emotional clues group; the accurcy of control group was significantly high than the invalid emotional clues group; the accurcy of control group was significantly lower than the valid keyword clues group; the accurcy of control group made no difference with the invalid keyword clues group.Experiment 3 investigated the mechanism of the effect of emotional clues in imagery formation by using the eye-tracking technology. When presented the verse, providing the valid and invalid emotionl clues. The results showed that:In the right trials, the dwell time of the valid emotionl words was significantly more than the invalid emotional words; In the middle stage of the appreciation of poetry, the dwell time of the valid emotionl words in the right trials was much more than the wrong trials; In the wrong trials, there were difference between the dwell time of the valid emotionl word and invalid emotionl word.The results showed that, there was a greatly positive correlation between the scores of imagery and artistic conception. The role of emotion clue was significant, while only when the correct emotion clue was provided did the keyword clue works.
