Pride is a positive self-conscious emotion that results from personal achievements or the achievements of close others. As one of the self-conscious emotion and one of positive emotion, pride plays a very important role in many domains of psychological function, and has an significant influence on people’s behavior and life. Tracy and Robins (2004) proposed the process model of self-conscious emotion and suggested pride can be divided into two distinguishable facets, authentic and hubristic pride, according different attributions on achievements. Authentic pride might result from attributions to internal, unstable, controllable causes (I won because I practiced), whereas hubristic pride might result from attributions to internal, stable, uncontrollable causes (I won because I’m always great). And through the researches of semantic analysis, personality, cognitive evaluation, social behaviors and mental health, pride was proved to have two facet structure. The two-facet pride is different on personality traits, cognitive incentives and behaviors, each facet has different functions. This paper research uses questionnaire survey and experimental method and Chinese college students as the participants to explore the different influence of the two-facet structure of pride on prosocial Behavior. In study 1, we use questionnaire survey to test the different effect of trait pride on prosocial behavior tendency. The results suggest that different facet of trait pride have different impact on prosocial behavior tendency. First, authentic pride has a significantly positive correlated with prosocial behavior tendency. And authentic pride has certain prediction function on prosocial behavior of human. Second, hubristic pride has a significantly negative correlated with prosocial behavior tendency. And hubristic pride has certain prediction effect on prosocial behavior. In study2, we use Imagine Task to induce pride to test the effect of state pride on prosocial behavior. The experiments are divided into three groups:authentic pride group, hubristic pride group and control group. In addition, after reading related literatures, we know that self-esteem also has a significant correlation with prosocial behavior. Because self-esteem level maybe have influence on prosocial behavior, we need to check whether the individual’s self-esteem trait influence on prosocial behavior. The results suggest that we can distinguish authentic pride from hubristic pride on prosocial behavior, authentic pride can promote the prosocial behavior of the individual, hubristic pride will lower the prosocial behavior of the individual. The different result of the two-facet structure of pride on prosocial behavior is not affected by personal self-esteem.
