Most researchers believed that English learners could learn English vocabulary by using target language several times through listening and reading. And in reading,word repetition rates was accounted as one of the main reasons that affected English learners to learned English vocabulary. However, the systematical research of the effects of increasing word repetition rates in reading was rare, and the results were also dissatisfactory. Therefore, this study would explore if there will be effects of increasing word repetition rates in reading, and to what extent.There were sixty students of Grade Eight in compulsory education in a rural area school taking part in this study. In this four-month study, from September to December in 2014, the researcher made it into two stages, the previous stage, from September to October, with traditional teaching methods and the later stage, from November to December, with new teaching methods. And the relative analysis were carried out by the two stages. Then in the later stage with new teaching methods, the study included pre-tests and post-tests. All the tests were also analyzed. There were ten tests in this study. And in each test, a reading with ten key words was used to study if there will be effects of increasing word repetition rates in reading, and to what extent. Moreover, in the later stage with new teaching methods, key words in boldfaced and italicized form were also used to attract the participants’ attention. In the subsequent study, participants with high, intermediate and low scores were attended related interviews. And the qualitative analysis were carried out after that.From both quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis, the study found that:1. Increasing word repetition rates in reading have effects on English learners’ vocabulary learning.2. English Learners’ vocabulary learning effects have improved by increasing word repetition rates in reading.Based on the above study, pedagogical findings and implications are put forward.Limitations and suggestions for further research are also proposed.
