| Along with the fast development of international communication, liaison-escort interpreters become more and more necessary to international forums and meetings. This paper is the author’s practice report on The 9th Silk Road Mayors Forum and the Silk Road Economic Belt Cities Cooperation and Development Forum 2014, which was held in Urumqi, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The author served the forum as a liaison-escort interpreter to welcome and receive delegates of foreign cities. Through the practice, the author gradually learnt the characteristics and difficulties of liaison-escort interpreting. The interpreters in practical work are not only responsible for interpreting, delivering messages, but also the culture carriers, tour guides, photographers etc.. So a sense of service is needed. As liaison-escort interpreting relates to various topics instead of one theme, a large amount of vocabularies and knowledge are needed. Besides, the reception is about foreign affairs, so it needs a high demand for etiquette. The author analyzed detailedly the characteristic of multiple roles in this report and its affects on the practical work through many examples. After accepting the task, the author did a sufficient preparation, but because the author was informed late and lack of experiences, she still met some difficulties. Having researched through personal practice, the author wrote the paper, gave examples and analyzed them in it. She analyzed the liaison-escort interpreter through different angles, including interpretation, roles, etiquette and the sense of service. The author hopes the paper could make the interpreting learners get inspired and learn more about the liaison-escort interpreting and push forward the development of interpreting education. |
