As an important economic pivot to connect China from all four directions, thesix provinces of central China cannot develop harmoniously and sustainably withouta sound social security system. For a long period of time, compared with east Chinaand other developed areas, central China is lagging behind in economic developmentand the level of social security. In order for a steady and healthy economicdevelopment of those provinces and for a fair distribution of national revenue amongpeople in central China, the author conducts a comparison of social security level incentral China and studies the influential factors, trying to explore a new way toimprove the social security standards in central China. The core element of social security system is social insurance. The paper istheoretically based on related theories and concepts of social security from home andabroad. The paper falls into four parts. First, an empirical analysis is made on statusquo of social security throughout China. Second, a comparison about the socialsecurity level is made among the six provinces and with other provinces in China.Based on this comparison analysis, the paper aims to identify some basic factors thathinder the improvement of the social security level in central China. Third, the authorconducts a quantitative analysis of the main factors that influence the social securitylevel of Jiangxi province macroscopically by applying the econometric model ofcorrelation analysis and multiple linear regression analysis, Jiangxi as a representativeof central China. As the result shows, the key variable that influences the socialsecurity level of Jiangxi and other provinces in central China is the urban populationproportion. As is revealed by the result, the root cause is the existence of urban-ruralduality. Finally, the author proposes some suggestions on how to improve the socialsecurity level, aiming to reduce the urban-rural duality in social security in centralChina.
