Socialization refers to the transition process of an individual from a biological being to a socialone. Family is the nursery of human nature and the cradle of children’s socialization. As the familymembers (the parents) migrate to the city to work and the traditional “parental rearing” structure breaks up,the duty of guardianship is shifted to single parent, grandparents, even great-grandparents or other relatives. This remarkable change leads to the weakening of family function in raising and educating children, whichis detrimental to the left-behind children’s mental health and behavioral health and thus hinders thechildren’s socialization process. The socialization of the left-behind children is crucial to the quality of theirown life and development and even the whole quality of Chinese nation and the construction of harmonioussociety. The thesis consists of five chapters in total.Chapter one is the introduction part, in which the research background, research significance, literature review and research methods are involved.Chapter two discusses about the theoretic basis of the research. Based on the existing researchfindings, the thesis firstly defines the concepts of left-behind children, socialization and family function, and illustrates the theoretic basis of the research.Chapter three gives a presentation on the samples in research and analyzes the status quo aboutthe socialization of the left-behind children combined with the questionnaire results. The thesis concludesthat there exist many problems in the left-behind children’s psychology and behavior. Then it makes adepth analysis of those problems and finds that the change of family structure caused by the parents’migration to the city weakens the family function in raising and educating children, which adversely affectsthe socialization of the left-behind children.Chapter four puts forward some countermeasures against the problems in question. Firstly, letparents go back home or let left-behind children study in cities so as to restore the familystructure;Secondly, restore and make-up the family function in educating children. Thirdly, restore andmake-up the family function in raising children. Lastly, restore and make-up the family function in love communication.Chapter five concludes all the research results of this thesis and points out some limitations andsome topics which needs further study.
