The Study Of Self Construction And Social Interaction In The Square Dance In Modern Urban

The author considers the square dance group to be the object of study in this paper. Through the way of in-depth Fieldwork, the author combines the theory of structural the social transformation and the theory of self-construction to understand the characteristics and forms of the square dance groups by the background and historical context, then to explain the underlying cause of the square dance in the modern city. Through in-depth case, the author interprets the cultural phenomenon of the Square Dance to know the psychology and behavior of the square dance group. It will explore that the individual quest for the ego reflecting behind this group and the meaning of existence of the communal lifestyle from the micro level.The Square Dance is the manifestation of social interaction during Chinese urban life. The member expands the communication which mainly involves the family life by the dance, and the individual can extend and alternate his relationship. The background of the dance appearing is the process of constructing the social order of strangers during the urbanization. From the traditional " society of acquaintance" to the modern "society of strangers" which is in the dilemma of an active choice and social constraints, the individuals make themselves just into the change of daily life by a special way, which is the square dance. Square Dance group containing the collective memory makes the square dance become the construct of a new social order in a form of public space areas in a way. Through social interaction and interaction within the group, the members of the square dance group not only achieve a balance of relationships, but also maintain the individual ego and the values of identity.
