According to statistics, by the end of2013,the current number of collegestudents in our country is more than25million. They are in the golden stageof personality development and intelligence cognition. College student is aneffective strength of building socialism with Chinese characteristics, and theircultural value and behaviors will affect the future development of Chinesenational culture. We have noticed that with the accelerating development ofglobal economy and cultural integration, the western culture and value havebrought visual and spiritual impact on China’s college students, and theimpacts of those decadent lifestyles on the college students should not beunderestimated. Nowadays, it is a very important to guide and educate collegestudents realize with sober the origin and development of our national culturein such a complex social environment; inherit and carry forward the excellenttraditional culture under the new historical environment; improve culturalconsciousness and cultural confidence in the historical process of Marxismwith Chinese characteristics; avoid step into the serious mistake, nationalcultural identity crisis, the lack of goals and beliefs, confusion in their roles,setbacks and pains in their life. The author thinks that, currently, cultivatingstudents’ cultural consciousness and cultural self-confidence is an importantaspect in the strengthening the ideological and political education, as well asin improving the ideological and political education of college students. This author tries to commit preliminary research on this field, and expect to reach acertain understanding.This paper consists of introduction and three other chapters. In theintroduction, the author expounds the research significance, research status athome and abroad, research ideas, research methods, innovations and itsevaluation.The first chapter carries on the definition of cultural consciousness andcultural confidence, and illuminates the importance of cultural consciousnessand cultural self-confidence in cultivating college students.The second chapter is about the current situation and reasons of the lack ofcultural consciousness and cultural confidence in college students. On thebasis of empirical research, the author puts forward the reasons of the culturalawareness and cultural self-confidence absence in college students: the first isthe college students’ cultural values tend to be more vulgar; the second is theirblind fanaticism in fashion and symbolization; the third is that the traditionalculture identity has been weakened. The main reasons are the neglects of theoutstanding traditional culture, the impacts of other ideologies, marketeconomy and the virtual network.The third chapter is about the principles and ways in cultivating collegestudents’ cultural awareness and cultural confidence. After realizing thecurrent situation and reasons of the absence of the college students’ culturalconsciousness and cultural confidence, the author puts forward that in cultivating college students’ cultural awareness and cultural self-confidence,we must adhere to and grasp the development direction of socialist advancedculture; we must take socialist core values as our guideline; we must handlethe relationship between criticism and inheritance, between foreign cultureand native culture; we must keep pace with modernization, the world and thefuture. At the same time, this paper discusses the effective ways to cultivatecollege students’ cultural consciousness and cultural confidence, mainlyincluding: the first is the emphasis on cultivating the independent ability, andmaking the outstanding culture more powerful; the second is to develop agood campus culture atmosphere, and exert the function of campus culture ineducating people; the third is to make full use of the ideological and politicaleducation as the roles of main channel and position; the forth is to attach greatimportance to the internet, and make the internet culture as a guiding role.In the conclusion, the author summarizes the central argument, viewpoints,and shortcomings of the paper.
