Discussion On The Justification Of "Overseas Legion" By Its Positive Influence And Contribution To Table Tennis

Chinese table tennis is one of the few sports that can be proud of. Thanks to the popularization, specialty and influence, Chinese table tennis kept making its history in the world and it also become the best table tennis playing country in the world. As the world’s strongest table tennis playing country and for the reasons of cultural exchange and help training other countries athletes, China has sent their athletes abroad for purposes, some of the Chinese athletes even go abroad at their own expense to get a better career prospect. Particularly in1980s, a lot of retired or active Chinese table tennis athletes visited other countries and join the table tennis league there. Due to their high table tennis skill, these athletes had become the best players in the country they played for and of course they had naturalized some nationalities afterwards, in additions, they also had chances to competing with Chinese athletes in the world competitions, people call these people "overseas legion".A lot of conditions had become the reason of creating "overseas legion", for example, such as lack of resources, not well organized of athletes training and requirements in "weak" table tennis playing countries. People have different views on "overseas legion" through its development. The thesis discussed about agreements and disagreements of "overseas legion" through document research, method analysis and expert interview. The results shows that the "overseas legion" is a double edge sword to the development of Chinese table tennis, in general, the benefits of it are larger than disadvantages. That means, it is unwise to restrict "overseas legions", on the contrary, Chinese should give a strong backing to it in mental, political and materials.
