The Study On Marriage Dilemma Of Male Homosexual’s Wife In Contemporary China

Based on the perspective of marriage sociology, the author wants to make a systematic description and analysis of the survival status and marriage experience of male homosexual’s wives in contemporary China through a method combination of qualitative interview and literature research. With the analysis of interview material, this paper attempts to draw a common model of the procedure male homosexual’s wives establish their special identity. The procedure includes five stages:identity refusal, identity comparison, identity tolerance, identity acceptance and identity integration. According to the experience of male homosexual’s wives, this paper divides the marriage dilemma they have been facing with into four respects:the dilemma of mate choice before marriage, the lack of sex and love in marriage, self-identity crisis and divorce dilemma. According to the research and analysis of the marriage dilemma of male homosexual’s wife, the author has got some conclusions as follows:First, a direct cause of the phenomenon of male homosexual’s wife is that Chinese male homosexuals have to enter heterosexual marriage under the pressure coming from society and tradition. The phenomenon of male homosexual’s wife is the other side of the issue of homosexual problems. After male homosexuals enter marriage with the opposite sex under social pressure, they would face so terrible tearing between their real sexuality and heterosexual marriage that many of them would tend to find romantic love and sexual relationship outside of marriage which is the main reason of the marriage dilemma of homosexual’s wife. Putting the moral responsibility of male homosexuals aside, the most fundamental way to help reducing the marriage dilemma of male homosexual’s wife is to increase the understanding and acceptance of homosexuals in mainstream society.Second, The phenomenon of male homosexual’s wife is a result of social transition in contemporary China. During the period of social transition, the ideas of marriage have been so diversified that traditional and modern concepts of marriage both play a role in people’s mate choice and marriage expectation in a intertwining manner. Gender equality and the expansion of female rights allow Chinese females to stand out and fight for their legitimate rights and interests when something unfair or unfortunate happens. Moreover, during the period of social transition, the ethics and public opinion cannot play a effective role of supervisor on marriage any longer and the development of economy has provided male homosexuals with material basis of the irrational separation of sex and marriage. Such conditions give the male homosexuals convenience for looking for love and sexual pleasure outside of marriage. The phenomenon of homosexual’s wife implies the moral abnormality in the field of marriage in our society.
