English is very important as a second language in China, and English writing isone of the most important English skills. However, through the survey, it is found thatmany junior middle schools pay little attention to the teaching of English writing, andfor this reason, English writing becomes more and more difficult to the students. TheLength Approach, which is first proposed by professor Wang Chuming, shows us itsgreat achievement in college writing teaching. This approach has made good result insenior middle schools too. Does this approach play the same role to the Junior middleschool students in English leaning? This thesis tries to find out the answers to thefollowing questions: Is the Length Approach feasible in the teaching of English writingin junior middle schools? Can the Length Approach enhance the interest in Englishwriting and improve English learning ability of junior middle school students?Eighty-four students in Li Mu Second Middle School were involved in this sixteenweeks’ study. At the beginning of the study, the teacher was made familiar enough withthe Length Approach, and the students should know the steps of this writing approach.At the first week and the last week, Questionnaire One and Questionnaire Two, thewriting tests, the English tests were given.Through the analysis of results of the questionnaires and tests, it is found that theLength Approach can be used in junior middle school effectively. The length approachcan help the junior middle school students achieve great improvement. The LengthApproach can help students gain great interests and self-confidence. The LengthApproach can improve the students’ scores in writing, and also can enhance the studentsinterests in English writing.The research indicates that the Length Approach can give a great help to thestudents and obviously improve the students’ writing ability. Therefore, the study is ableto give some inspiration in future on the middle school English teaching, so as toimprove English teaching as a whole.
