Plenty of researches show that female students are generally more excellent inSecond Language Acquisition, which mostly lies on comprehensive learning and theapplication. Accordingly, some scholars indicate the concept of boy’s crisis. They holdthat boys are weaker in learning knowledge. However, in recent years, there are somescholars beginning to demonstrate that boys have their own advantages in learningprocess. If it is the truth, what are the advantages of male students? Why do they havethe advantages? How to develop these advantages? They are the valuable problems weshould explore carefully and also the key points of this paper.In this dissertation, the author adopts three research methods to demonstrate thatmale students do have advantages in learning English in senior high school, which arerespectively the advantage of English reading, English grammar learning and beingbrave to express themselves in English, and the methods he uses are data analysis,experiment and questionnaire. Continually, the author explains the reasons why malestudents have the advantages in learning English and the analysis is mainly based oncognitive style, intelligent factors and social gender construction. Firstly, their cognitivestyle helps them to analyze the passages they read and to answer the questions; theirgreat ability in visual field save them enough time to understand the material and thequestions but not to waste their time in reading the words and sentences; they hold awide range of interests which is good for them to understand the topic they read.Secondly, male students’ analytical perception, logical memory and abstract thinkingare the advantageous intelligent assistant in learning English grammar well. Finally, thesocial factor is the most important reason why boys are brave enough to showthemselves and communicate with others in English even though their English is notgood enough. According to the advantages the author finds, she gives some teaching suggestions.Teachers can further stimulate their interest and instruct them to learn English throughreading, which is because we all know that every language point is included in readingmaterial. Enhancing the grammar learning and applying them in words and parsedlearning is also an efficient way to help male students learn English better. Teachersshould give male students more opportunities to practice their English, which is basedon their high interest in showing themselves. And there are also other suggestions theauthor gives in the last part. At last, the author points out some limitation of the research.
