| It has been more than one hundred years since basketball spread into China and now basketball has become one of people’s most favorite sports. Based on the case of Wuyang County, which located in the middle of Henan Province, this paper studies the formation and development of mass basketball culture, provides a theoretical basis for the development of county basketball culture and develops new fields for the research of basketball culture. This study used the literature method, field survey method, questionnaire survey method, mathematical statistics method and other scientific research methods. Using the mass basketball culture in Wuyang County as the research object, the study analyzed the formation process of Wuyang County’s mass basketball culture and its influence factors.The results shows that:firstly, the guidance of our country and local government’s policy plays a key role in forming the mass basis of basketball culture in Wuyang County. On January19,1995, the All China Federation of Trade Unions made "outlines of the interim procedures of carrying out professional sports activities". Then Wuyang County began to hold basketball games. Some companies provided jobs for people who were excellent basketball players. And in addition, our country had the policy that students could get jobs provided by the government after they graduated from college. As a result, many people began to play basketball in order to get better career. Secondly, a court with lights and bleachers were built in1982in Wuyang County. This court was the first and the only one built in counties in the middle area of Henan Province, which played an important role in forming the mass basketball culture in Wuyang County. Wuyang County’s unique weekend basketball league format became a sign that mass basketball culture had formed in Wuyang County. Thirdly, compared to the surrounding areas, Wuyang County was the only county that had court with lights and bleachers, weekend basketball games and encouraged policy made by the old generation government. There were no big differences between the rural areas in the middle of Henan Province and that in Wuyang County. But the rural areas in western part of Henan Province had better economy and organized basketball games in holidays and slack seasons every year, as a result of which, its development of mass basketball culture was better than that in Wuyang County’s rural area. Fourthly, according to the analysis of21factors, the results shows that there are6main factors influencing the development of mass basketball culture in Wuyang County:respectively policy factor, economic factor, human resources factor, social environment factor, mass bases factor and the basketball characteristic factor. Fifthly, the main problems existing in the development of mass basketball culture in Wuyang County are the lack of mass basketball courts, the gender imbalance and the development lag of mass basketball culture in rural areas.According to the problems in the development of mass basketball culture in Wuyang County, the government should build more and better mass basketball facilities, pay more attention to the mass to the knowledge of sports, and spread mass basketball culture from the town to the rural areas. Meanwhile, the government should strengthen the management of the mass basketball activities in rural areas and construct a people-oriented and harmonious basketball culture. |
