Class-based teaching system is the basic method to impose “New Class”. “All for the improvement of each student” is the nuclear concept of revolution of New Class. While teaching, teachers should focus on the performance and development of every student especially those backward students and make them get involved in the learning process actively. But limited by teaching condition, which it is hard to take care of the backward students. While backward students suffer from setback during learning. They get not only low marks in test, but also lack the interest and motivation of study which will induce some mental problems, affecting students’ physical and mental health.Aimed at the practical situation and existed problem in English teaching, the author decides to carry out a recessive hierarchical teaching experiment in my school to improve the backward students’ English learning. This experiment try to inquire into the educational effect of recessive hierarchical teaching on backward students and study the positive influence on improving academic performance, increasing interest, correcting learning attitude, protecting self-respect and confidence and promoting healthy personality development of them. Before and after the experiment, the author investigated questionnaire surveys, performance tests and individual interviews in the experimental class and control class. Through the analysis of experimental results, we can see that the recessive hierarchical teaching model can solve the contradiction between class teaching and individual differences. And it can also improve the English learning environment of the backward students’ effectively, enhance their interest in learning English and improve their English performance.
