"Beijing Sport University Spirit" Concise And Its Value Of Research

In the new period, software is as important as hardware in the development of university. The university spirit belong to the software. The revival of research on university spirit points out that university spirit plays an important role and has the great value in the development process of university. As a higher sports university, Beijing Sport University (BSU) has developed for 61 years and made great achievements which is inseparable from nourished and supportive role played by the university spirit. From a historical perspective, the paper mainly introduces the backgrounds, developing process, values and lineage on the BSU spirit through data compilation, interviews and theoretical analyses. The specialized and systematic summary on the BSU spirit will provide theoretical support for BUS to build a world-class sports university and a reference for the development of other sport institutions and soaring of national sports undertaking.This paper mainly adopts the documents research, historical research, interviews to make the subject study. By the documents research, the author has made a large collection of domestic and overseas research data on school spirits, university spirits and BSU spirit. The theoretical bases of the study through reasonable inspection, screening and carding. The extraction of BSU spirit remains in 61-year history of the school, so the author sorts out the spirit chronologically through historical research. At last, the paper summarizes the extraction process and historical trend of BSU spirit. The author get the understanding and view on spirit of the people regarding to BSU in the different periods through the interviews to faculty, staff, administrators and schoolfellows. The first hand information is provided by analyzing and sorting the data.The study found that the spirit of BSU is the general term which consists of cultural traditions, values and behaviors that approved and observed by all the faculty, students and schoolfellows. It is not only the summary of school development history, it’s also the same strain of mental schemata and behavioral stereotype for people regarding to BSU. It can be summarized as to be patriotic, dare to overcome any hardships, self-discipline and art-focusing, unity of mind and body. The orientation of school from two aspects, one is national distribution of school development, the other is own development plan. School’s educational philosophy is to enhance national constitution, carry forward the spirit of sport, discover scientific truths and lead the progress of civilization. School’s ethos is "patriotism, hardworking, honesty and innovation".The motto of school is " Pursuit of Excellence". These cultural elements complement each other and form a relatively stable entirety. The value of BSU spirit is embodied in four aspects of development, science, humanities and aesthetics, and exert a subtle influence on other aspects. The spiritual inheritance of BSU under the influence of era, the spirit is inherited mainly by BSU which advancing to world-class sports university, the faculty which cultivate high-end talents for country and the students which struggle for building a world sports power. Scientific decision-making committees, a sound regulatory framework, rich cultural campus activities, diverse means of information dissemination, leading-edge sports practices are the main carriers of spiritual inheritance of BSU. The spirit of BSU is constantly developing and improving. So correctly understanding and practicing the spirit of BSU is the relentless pursuit of people regarding to BSU.
