Research On The Specialization Development Of Counselors In Higher Vocational Colleges

Counselors are the backbone to carry out the ideological and political education of College students, and the organizers, practitioners and mentors of daily ideological and political education and management work of university students. The specialization of counselor refers to the process that counselor enrich professional knowledge, improve professional skills, and form good professional ethics to achieve the professional standards of counselors through continuous learning in the work. Their specialized level directly affects the quality of work, how to promote the specialization development of counselors in higher vocational colleges, improve the specialization quality of counselors, and make them play positive role in college students’ study and life is an important issue that we need to study in the new period. Constantly improve the level of specialization of counselors, establish a good counselor team can improve the quality of our country’s higher vocational education and promote the steady and healthy development of our country’s higher vocational and technical education career.This paper takes the counselors of Suzhou vocational college as investigation object, investigates the present situation of specialization development of counselor through questionnaire and interview, analyzes the problems existing in the counselor specialization development and the reasons, puts forward the countermeasures to promote the development of specialization counselors. There are some problems in the specialization development of counselor in higher vocational college: lacking of professional background, professional knowledge level is not high and the professional ability is weak. There are many reasons causing these problems: inadequate staffing, heavier tasks; responsibility is not clear; working conditions is low; the status of counselors in schools is low; training, evaluation and incentive system is not perfect. Countermeasures to promote the specialization development of higher vocational college counselor are as followings: First, the education authorities should set professional standards of counselors, establish certification system of counselor, strengthen the construction of the counselor professional organization and create a good environment for the professional development of counselors. Second, the higher vocational colleges should attach great importance to the professional development of counselors, improve working conditions, increase the intensity of training, improve instructors hiring, evaluation and incentive system.Third, the counselor individual should make career planning, active learning, conduct some research work, enrich the professional knowledge and improve the capacity of jobs.
