As a part of subject well-being, affection balance includes all kinds of positive and negative affections commonly felt in daily life. It plays a role in both the level of subject well-being and the physical and physiological health of individuals. By studying a special group, freshmen in Secondary nursing School, this thesis discusses the relationship among life events, coping style, self-esteem and affection balance, so as to establish an ideal model and enrich the data base for relevant studies, thus providing more theoretical bases to improve the students’ affection balance.Through a questionnaire survey of 1,716 freshmen in a secondary nursing school, some conclusiongs are drawn:1. This group of people’s major life events are study pressure and interpersonal relationship.2. The most common ways they take to cope are solving problems by themselves and seeking for help.3. Their scores of positive self-esteem are higher than that of negative self-esteem.4. These students feel more positive affections than negative ones. The affection balance is at the medium level.5. In terms of the scores of life events, the major differences lie in demographic variables of gender, major and household registration; in coping style, there are great differences in gender and household registration; in self-esteem, differences lie in gender and major; and in terms of the scores of affection balance, the major differences are in gender and major.6. In this group of people, life events, emotion-based copying style and affection balance are correlated. And life events, self-esteem and affection balance are also correlated.7. Emotion-based coping style serves as the medium between life events and affection balance for this group.8. Self-esteem serves partly as the mediator between life events and affection balance.9. In freshmen in technical secondary school, emotion based copying style and positive self-esteem plays a role of parallel multi-mediator between life events and negative affections.
