Teacher professional development is a growing process which highlights the cultivation of qualified teachers through life-long professional training, and during the process teachers acquire knowledge and professional skills in education, improve their own teaching skills and enhance their professional expertise gradually. In this paper, TPD refers to English teachers’ professional development. This thesis adopts questionnaire and interview to know more about the general situation of the ETPD, and expose the factors which hinder the ETPD. In the end, the author puts forward specific and practical solutions.84 participants came from the three senior high schools. At last,64 of the questionnaires are found to be valid.6 participants are the interviewees, who respectively come from Chongzuo Senior High School, Longzhou Senior High School and the Middle School Attached to Guangxi Normal University for Nationalities, two from each school. The questionnaire is based on the structure of Teachers’ professional development (TPD) by Yang Tianping, and it has high reliability. The questionnaire consists of four aspects: the degree of satisfaction of present situation, the content of professional knowledge, inside and outside factors and the ways of improving teachers’ professional development. This paper tries to get answers to the following four questions.(1) What is the general situation of the ETPD in Chongzuo, Guangxi?(2) What are the influencing factors of ETPD?(3) What are the different attitudes between females and males in the aspects of teachers’ professional development?(4) What are the effective ways to improve the ETPD?Through the investigation and analysis, the author finds out something interesting. The results of this research are listed as follows.Firstly, in the subjects of research, most of the teachers are young; their ages are between their early 20s and 40s. The diploma of teachers is Bachelor. There are only one Master bearer and one Doctor bearer. Most of the teachers are satisfied with being English teachers but not with their self-development. At the same time, they are strongly dissatisfied with their present wages. Moreover, in the aspect of knowledge structure, the teachers know more about professional abilities and concepts, but their professional knowledge is weak. Secondly, most of the teachers think that social factors and school factors on the influence of TPD is larger. Thirdly, male and female teachers have salient differences in present situation, professional knowledge and concepts, but there is not salient difference in professional abilities. Fourthly, Most of the teachers think that the effective ways to improve TPD are reflecting their teaching behaviors, reading books and observation the quality class.Based on the above findings, this paper puts forward some suggestions for improving ETPD. Firstly, the teachers themselves should establish the consciousness of professional development to strengthen their professional knowledge learning. Secondly, the department of education should improve the social education system and standardize the system of school management. Thirdly, the government should provide various practical in-service training. Fourthly, the government should pay more attention to providing better material condition to the ethnic minority group inhabited areas and increase the teachers’salary. At last, the male and female teachers should learn from each other, build a cooperation learning model, the schools should establish a stage for teachers to make full use of local resources and make use of national characteristics of the teaching environment.
