| The development of the basketball has been more than a hundred years. In the constant developing, it is becoming more and more to show the charm of basketball. And it has become one of the most popular games, and participating in the largest number in the world. Passing and catching basketball is one of the techniques that using frequently in basketball games, and is the important safeguard to realize the tactical coordination and organize the effectively offensive tactics, also is the link of the players’ connection and the offense organization. Most of the cooperations’ achievements need the skip of passing and catching basketball techniques. Throughout the high lever‘s basketball games, in the excellent team, in the playground, the fast and effective pass and catch basketball between the players can not only make the opponents hard to prevent and achieve a stunning effect, and also improve the ornamental greatly of basketball games.This article aims to study the characteristics of the passing and catching basketball skills of the men’s top eight teams in the thirties London Olympic Games, through the literature method, video research, methods of mathematical statistics and induction. Then we get the features of the techniques, which are the frequency and effect of attacking, the passing area and route, the passing form and state, the effect of passing, the equilibrium of the teams passing, the missing of passing. These are providing a reference to the improvement of basketball skills.The results of the research is about the six points :1.In London’s Olympic Games of the men’s top eight teams, in terms of the attack frequency, effective attacking and success attacking, the index per games of the three respects,America’s team is much higher than other teams of the top eight.present at the index is much higher than that of other eight strong team, while the other teams are not showing so obvious gap in the three aspects. Because of the USA’s offensive is based on the personal ability, and some simple coordinates, so the frequency of passing is few and the offensive tempo is fast. So the individual ability is the directly key factor to effect the outcome of the game.2.In the top eight teams, the highest numbers of the passing times is the Spanish team, while the lowest is USA’s team, and the other six teams don’t show too much difference. It indicates that the individual ability of USA’s team is strong, and the cooperation of Spanish team is good, and the other teams’ offensive tactical coordination and team style are closer to each other.3. In the London Olympic Games, the three zones’ proportions of the entirety passing area of the top eight teams respectively are: 9.14%, 18.57%, 72.28%, the least of the first area, the most of the third area.4. In the passing form, the top eight teams are using the passing form of movement the most, then is the tweak passing form, and the consecutive passing is the least. The proportions respectively are : 11.39%,31.78%,56.83%.5. In the catching form of the top eight teams, the standing catching is higher than the moving catching. And the proportions respectively are 51.12% and 48.88%.6.
