Nowadays, high quality education grows to be the backbone underpinning the prosperity of modern economy. Each province and region throughout mainland China and Taiwan, in recent years, has devoted great efforts to the reform and innovation of local education system. The present paper makes a comparison between the New Class national history papers and Taiwan history papers from 2011 to 2013, from which the author attempts to draw inspirations to obtain references, in order to better further the reform of general history education in high school and the cultural and historical communication across the strait.The entrance examination for college is commonly regarded as the most important exam in one’s lifetime. It demands that scholars and lecturers in the frontier of education not only be fully equipped with relevant examination system, curriculum, textbooks, teaching methods, etc, but also learn from each other to better serve the society through education. As an integral part of China, Taiwan shares the same culture and history, however, the history presented in our respective examination papers is not the case, owing to our different political system, economic system and ideology. Thus, the author learns to evaluate the history education in both areas by analyzing the recent history papers.It is known to all that Taiwan, one of the East Asian Tigers, successfully maintains its leading position in education as well as economy. The present paper compares the examination systems, analyze the proposition ideas, time and score, scope of examination and textbook, question and criteria and so on, take its essence and offer some suggestions in light of the reality. First, we should improve exam structure and assessment criteria. Second, students’ ability of thinking should be bringing up. Last, teachers need to pay attention to students a sense of time and history in process of teaching. The author attempts to contribute to the development of history education cross-strait.
