English writing is regarded as a complex and formidable task for most junior middle school students. Text construction is one of the most important aspects of English writing teaching. The author tries to analyze the application of textual function into writing teaching in junior middle school from the view of systemic functional linguistics. Actually, thematic structure, information structure and cohesion are interrelated constituents of textual function and they play distinctive roles respectively in discourse construction, In order to solve the problems that exist in discourse construction and improve students’writing ability, the author attempts to apply textual function to English writing teaching in junior middle school.The thesis stresses on the practical significance of textual function in junior middle school English writing teaching. The author makes a survey about the present situation of English writing teaching in Shangcai No.2Junior Middle School from both teachers and students’aspects, finds that there are lots of problems in writing. To solve these problems, the author tries to apply textual function to English writing teaching in junior middle school. Therefore, in chapter four, the author puts forward the application of textual function into English writing and carries out a specific teaching experiment to find appropriate teaching methods to improve students’writing ability. Before the experiment, the author makes a writing test in two classes from Shangcai No.2Junior Middle School and finds there is no difference between the two classes. The two classes are treated as experimental class and controlled class. During the process of experiment, the author adopts textual function to guide writing teaching in experimental class, while still uses product approach in controlled class. After the experiment, the author makes the other writing test and finds that the application of textual function into English writing can improve students’ awareness of discourse construction and writing ability to some degree by comparing and analyzing the two test data.Based on the theoretical support and verification in practice, the integration of textual function into English writing will be helpful for students to clear their writing thoughts and grasp the structure of the discourse, develop the content based on the main idea of the discourse and the topic of each paragraph, arranging the content reasonably to make the discourse coherent and concise, thus improving their writing ability effectively.
