English has become an essential language for Chinese students at present. English is regarded as a kind of language which belongs to a system and it needs to be regularized by English grammar. So it’s essential to learn English grammar. For senior high school students in China, learning English grammar is not only applied properly in listening, speaking,reading and writing, but can improve their the application of English ability and proficiency in English communicative competence. But now, the senior high school students are not in the environment of using English and in traditional classroom teaching, teachers adopt the force-feeding approach to teaching generally which makes the classroom more boring. The senior high school students only remember the language rules mechanically, which is not only facile to forget, but also lead to the senior high school students losing interest in English learning in order to affect their grades. Therefore, how to teach English grammar is important.With the development of modern society and setting in the background of curriculum,New London Group came up with multimodal teaching which was a new concept in 1996.This group was wise to utilize the pictures, sound, multi-media, group discussion and more various channels to arouse and transfer the interest of learning language for students. Learners can take part in the language learning process and it improve the learners’ English communicative competence.This paper aims to comprehend the effectiveness of the multimodal grammar teaching in English grammar class of senior high school. The research questions are presented as follows:⑴ Compared with the traditional grammar teaching method, does the multimodal grammar teaching method have better effects in senior high school?⑵ Whether multimodal teaching method stimulates the students’ interests in learning English grammar if the answer is yes, give the explanation.⑶ Can multimodal grammar teaching method influence the application of English communicative competence of the senior high school students?The research subjects are 100 students of two classes from the Eighth High School of Dalian development zone. One class is as a Control Class while the other class is as an Experimental Class to proceed with a three months research. Meanwhile, this research adopts two tests, one questionnaire, and an interview to analyze and checkout the research results.And the software(Statistical Package for Social Science) is used to analyze the data in order to draw a conclusion. The research results prove that for the senior high school students, the multimodal grammar teaching method has a significant effect indeed. The multimodalgrammar teaching method combines with sound, pictures, language, multi-media and more different models to arouse the interest of learning English grammar and guide the ability of learning English grammar for the senior high school students. At last, the level of the senior high school students’ English grammar will be improved and their English communicative competence will be enhanced as well.
