Effective teaching is the ideal of contemporary teaching. It is also the goal of the English classroom teaching of senior high school. Our country has issued a new senior high school curriculum standard (experiment) in 2003. Senior high school English classroom teaching has been facing great changes and challenges. To improve the effectiveness of English classroom teaching is the foundation to realize the goal of the new curriculum. So this study takes the English classroom effective teaching of senior high school as the subject. This study discusses the concept、characteristics、 problems and strategies of the English classroom effective teaching of senior high school by taking the achievements of the effective teaching research as the guide, taking some second language acquisition theories as theoretical basis(Krashen’s monitor theory, Swain’s output hypothesis and Ellis’second language acquisition theory framework),and combining with the new senior high school curriculum standard.The study takes the English classroom teaching of L middle school of Lanzhou as the research object to engage in research by the ways of classroom observation and interviews and finds that there have been the following problems in the English classroom teaching:1.the aims of the classroom teaching is not clear and comprehensive.2. Segmentation of the English language, attaching more importance to the forms of English grammar instead of the meanings and usages and neglecting cultivating of the English culture to the students.3. The classroom English input is limited and the students lack the language output opportunities.4.The teachers’ teaching methods do not take into account the differences of the classes and learners.5.Teachers control the classroom teaching, lacking of the context teaching、 communications and the interactions during the class.6.Classroom teaching ignores the cultivation of students’ English strategies.7.The time of the class is not used effectivelybecause of not centering to the students’ learning.The study holds the view that the teachers’ idea of the teaching is the foundational condition to change the situation of English classroom teaching and the foundation to improve the effectiveness of the English classroom teaching. Therefore, the study puts forward the following basic education and teaching ideas that the teachers should have.l. Teaching for your students、loving them and loving your English teaching.2. English language teaching should be beyond the English test.3.Teaching by the theories of teaching principles.4. Keeping learning to change and to improve yourself in your whole teaching life. At last the study puts forward the effective strategies from the following aspects.1.The effective teaching strategies of the teachers’English language teaching.2.The effective teaching strategies of cultivating the students’ English learning strategies.3.Taking the school’ democratic management system and the multi dimension evaluation system as the supporting.
