The idea of mathematical modeling can not only improve the students’ reading comprehension ability, analysis and problem solving ability, but also the expressing and application ability in mathematics, which has an important significance for the comprehensive development of students. By analyzing the literature concerning the status of the teaching of mathematical modeling at home and abroad, we can easily find that although the middle school mathematics teachers pay much attention to modeling, the students’ modeling ability level is relatively low.The reason of this situation is that teachers only "granted" to the students modeling thought, not really mobilize the students to actively participate. How to get students involved in real mathematical modeling and realize the modeling ideas become the focus of the study.Steps of mathematical modeling can be divided into problem situations, model preparation, hypotheses, models building, models solving and application. The goals of mathematical teaching is based on <Compulsory mathematics curriculum standards>(2011). The article not only combines specific lesson plans of the ninth grade math book in order to carried out detailed arrangements but also design a score sheet. In the selection of teaching cases, the article designs a feasible modeling teaching case from the student’s life reality. Designing a practice-based teaching in order to let the students realize the core of mathematical modeling. The article select classes of two different lever as the experimental class according to the teaching standards and student achievement in order to grasp the teaching effect. In the process of the experiment, the author strictly control the independent variables on some rules.Based on the experimental data collected and the use of SPSS18.0, conclusions are as follow: the practice-oriented teaching is more useful for students. Specific performance can be divided into three aspects: There was a significant difference between the experimental class and the control class in maths scores and mathematical modeling capabilities, and the former is higher. Mathematical modeling capabilities and the students’ score is positively correlated with a correlation coefficient of 0.411 in experimental class while the control one is not. the article also give out some suggestions: first, writing books with cases of mathematical modeling;second, conducting systematic training of mathematical modeling at school; last but not the least, fully exploring the cognitive law of students in mathematical modeling.
