China has become so informatized in the 21st Century. With leaping sci-tech development and faster circulation of information, there’re more and more convenient and varied channels for obtaining information. Scientific development and social progress give rise to huge amounts of information and diversified values. Amid the social context of economic globalization, political polarization, living digitalization and cultural diversification, the formation of students’ values is subject to the impact of different schools of thoughts. As high school students haven’t built up complete values, they may not be able to apply objective judgments to many social phenomena and ideologies so that they can be easily affected by unhealthy ideas, thus impacting students’ activeness to a great extent. In some grass-root average high schools, under the impact of utilitarian ideas, many students show a lack of learning motivation and even weariness of learning. In such a situation, teachers are striving to seek methods to push students toward self-directed learning, in the hope of arousing the learning motivation of students.Based on the theory of learning motivation from studies of predecessors and the author’s personal teaching experience, some strategies are summarized for arousing learning motivation. PBL teaching was selected from these strategies, plus after-class homework, a certain amount of liberty and definite learning targets set for all classes, in a bid to arouse students’learning motivation. Then comparison will be drawn between the teaching and traditional teaching methodology to determine the effect of the former. The study shows that teaching conducted under the strategy of stimulating learning motivation is clearly more effective in enhancing students’learning motivation, so that it can promote students’grades more rapidly and steadily while maintaining students’ activity in learning. The study also shows that the method is more effective for students who formerly perform badly in their learning, and the impact on boys is more evident than on girls.Enhancing learning motivation of students will help harmonize the relationship between students and teachers to heighten the teaching quality of biology. Once the learning motivation of students stimulated, the activeness of students in learning will be fully mobilized so that the emotional and cognitive levels of students will be effectively raised to facilitate life-time development of students.
