This paper is analyzed from the behavior of major choice of recruit students, combing the depth interview data of more than three hundred thousand words from forty students of Z University. With the help of qualitative analysis software NVivo, this paper investigates the influence of family capital playing on students’ major choice and comes up with a comprehensive qualitative analysis.With the general major enrollment began to become a trend of college admissions, and some phenomenon of the general major of students has gradually entered the field of vision. The general major enrollment is one of the issues. Under the general major enrollment, students have more right to make a decision, but it is still affected by the impact of family capital. One of the analysis questions of this paper is whether different factors leading to the choice of major type affected by family capital is different and what is the difference.Family capital is one of the most influential factors in the study of sociology, education and economics. In previous studies, the family capital is divided into three dimensions:family economic capital, family social capital, family cultural capital. In this paper, the research of the family social capital according to the related theory is divided into the external family social capital and internal family social capital. To the function of family capital, it is divided into two dimensions:external family capital (including the family economic capital and external family social capital) and internal family capital (including the family cultural capital and internal family social capital). According to the functions of the degree of the two latitude, family capital is divided into four types:the whole capital dominated family capital, external led family capital, internal led family capital and weak capital donimated family capital. The influence of different types of family capital on the students’ major choice is another investigated issue in this paper.By means of qualitative analysis software NVivo, interview data of forty students from Z University were coding analyzed. The family capital affecting students’major choice is divided into the hard effect (direct effect on the choice of major, forced the selection of some or a particular major) and soft effect (through affecting students’ emotion, value, interest or other indirect effects on students major choice behaviour) and above all, coming to the following conclusions:1. Four different types of major choice students affected by family capital are different: Hard effect of family capital on the Results Leading Type Students is weak, and the soft effect on them is strong; Hard effect of family capital on the Interest Leading Type Students is weak, and the soft effect on them is strong; Hard effect of family capital on the Ability Leading Type Students is weak, and the soft effect on them is strong; Hard effect of family capital on the Employment Leading Type Students is strong, and the soft effect on them is strong;2. Four different types of family capital have different influences on the students’ major choice. The whole capital dominated family capital has weak hard effect on the choice of majors, and soft effect is strong; The externa family capital has strong hard effect on the choice of majors, and soft effect is weak; The internal family capital has strong hard effect on the choice of majors, and soft effect is strong; The weak capital dominated family capital has weak hard effect on the choice of majors, and soft effect is strong.3. Compared with the one-child family, the hard and soft effect of family capital on non one-child family’s eldest son (daughter) is larger while the effect on second son (daughter) is smaller.4. Compared with boys, girls are more likely affected by the role of family capital, including both hard and soft effect.
