The LCD controller is to be a video functional module in embedded system,and its more and more applications to make design become harder and harder and implementation complexity. Because of low voltage, low power, integration easy and legerity in using, abundance of display color that make effect of display very well and so an, The display technology of LCD will be applied more and more in many fields. Owing to it’s preponderance, the LCD controller on chip, i.e. embedded LCD controller, will be the hotspot of research in future for such characteristic of consummate function and integration easy.This paper base on the founctional requirement of LCD controller in the field of applying system, and adopted the method of from above to below to implement the architecture of the whole design and definited function of every small module.In the re-structure medium system of SoC, combine with the Advanced High-performance Bus, core of ARM1136J_S and memory interface EMI that to compose the mechanism to control video play, except that have achieved research in aspects of the compatibility of LCD controller interface, the effect of data transfer on AHB, low power, difficulty of functional implementation and so on. This paper did main research work such as the following text:Firstly, aim at application’s requirement of the re-structure medium system of SoC and core of ARM1136J_S characteristic, as well as AMBA AHB agreement, confirmed the whole architecture and the function of LCD controller, besides accomplished the design of every small module, make LCD controller can work on the re-structure medium system of SoCSecondly, completed the design of re-configuration interface based on AMBA AHB agreement. Analyzed the effect of data transfer on system bus, and the relation among performance of system bus in high pixel display mode, memory speed and the configuration of LCD controller. Find out some efficient measures to reduce system bus using probability by video data.Thirdly, adopt the optimized arithmetic implement the conversion between YUV and RGB format, which can improve efficiency of conversion between YUV format and RGB format. In aspect of image zoom arithmetic, accorde the principle of image zoom take some ameliorated measures to reduce the length of data in memory i.e.economize area of chip, and ensure the quality of display, as well as predigest the arithmetic.Fourthly, analyzed the embranchment of color and the effect of DMA of image layer have on system bus, frame priority of channels and FIFO’s deepness and width in different mode, which can make LCD controller work normal in condition of a great deal data stream. Fifthly, use verilog HDL hardware lanuage implemented the whole design, and make use of Synopsys company’s software VCS completed the functional verification, and based on65OS standard cell technics library completed design compiler, the result indicates the function, timing, power and area of LCD controller all reach the standard of design. When the SoC chip to be produced, have achieved debugging on S2C board and proved the performance all right, function perfect, fulfilled the standard of this design.
