The World Book And Copyright Day In China:2004-2014

On November 15th,1995,UNESCO’s 28th General Conference established " World Book and Copyright Day ",which was hold on 23 April each year.This festival aimed at advocating reading and publishing,respecting writing and translation,paying tribute to world literature and writers,protecting the book copyright and constructing a society of readers.Since its establishment,many countries response positively and follow suit,as a result,many countries set off the boom of reading activities and the establishment of reading festivals.As a result,the "World Book Capital" program derived in 2000.World Book and Copyright Day has a broad, positive, profound international influence and unusual significance.In 1997,China kicked off the "Knowledge Engineering" in order to promote universal reading and build the "reading society",and opened "national reading" prologue in China.In 2000,the "Knowledge Engineering" leading group decided to set for December of each year as the "National Reading Month".In 2004,"Knowledge Engineering" leadership team has chosen the Library Society of China to host the "National Reading Month" activities,and the time for the annual adjustment "World Book and Copyright Day" was around April 23rd.On April 23rd,2004,the Library Society of China joined up with the National Library and other institutions to host the publicity campaign about "World Book and Copyright Day", which was China’s first large-scale introduction of this festival, it’s the official debut of "World Book and Copyright Day" in China,since then, this festival gradually went into people’s vision.I think the starting time of "World Book and Copyright Day" in China should be defined as 2004,this year is the 19th "World Book Day"but its development process in China only 11 years.This article introduced the background of the "World Book and Copyright Day", analyzed the meaning of "World Book and Copyright Day" as well as some deviation in domestic,explained the impact of the international "World Book and Copyright Day", sort of development process of the "World Book and Copyright Day" in China, cleared the relationship between the "World Book and Copyright Day" and the "National reading Month" in China, summed up the "World Book and Copyright Day" with Chinese characteristics and the reasons,overviewed the national promotion activities based on the "World Book and Copyright Day" and came up some advice on national reading promotion from the perspective of China’s reading Festival recommendations.In detail, the main content of the thesis is divided into five sections:The first part introduces the origin, research method, significance, the shortcomings of the innovation, and the status of research at home and abroad of my study.The second part elaborately stated the established background of "World Book and Copyright Day" and its origin; the main content the focus of this part is the connotation of "World Book and Copyright Day" conducted in-depth interpretation of the original English text from three angles, it pointed out some of the existing domestic understanding deviation and international influence, including national prevalence of reading Festival and the "World Book Capital" program.The third part is the most important part of this thesis, it summarized the "World Book and Copyright Day" Memorabilia and summed up the "World Book and Copyright Day" into four Chinese characteristics:(1) the time is divided into two phases of 1995-2003 and 2004-2014,(2)"day in month" nested model, (3) concern the concept of reading promotion and ignore copyright content,(4)about service,highlight public cultural and not involving commercial interests;described the impact the "World Book and Copyright Day" on China national reading.The fourth part introduced Chinese reading activities based on World Book and Copyright Day from three dimensions of the city, the library, the book industry.The fifth part is the core of the innovation point,this part gives suggestions for the promotion of national reading, including five aspects:the establishment of China Reading Festival;the control process of national reading promotion activities ("a festival,a city, a book review,a publication and a network" mode);emphasis youths read nurture;strengthen the assessment of reading festival’s performance;plan National Strategic of National Reading by Reading Law.Although in the beginning of 8 years,almost no one in China understood and responded to the "World Book and Copyright Day", but in recent years, you can see that on "World Book and Copyright Day",reading has become a hot topic of society. "April 23rd" has become a "cultural alarm clock"to inspect national reading.Chinese Academy of Press and Publication always Releasing the "National Reading Survey Report" before "World Book and Copyright Day",aim to take the attention of people and experts about the problem of reading.Regardless of whether China will establish a national-level reading festival, such as Zhu Yongxin called for a "National Reading Day" for 11 consecutive years,"World Book and Copyright Day" has been everywhere in China, and had a significant effect on "national reading" process.I would like to give some literature reviews and suggestions for the 20th "World Book and Copyright Day".
